COMMUNITY BOOK LAUNCH
ENTER/EXIT
A TRAUMA-INFORMED PRAXIS FOR VISUAL JOURNALISM & BEYOND
SARAH BLESENER, LJ GRANERED, JENNIFER JACKLIN STRATTON
This document is a toolkit, not a rule book; there is no one correct way to approach trauma-informed storytelling. Enter/Exit offers a starting point: a framework informed by the lived experiences of individuals on both sides of the camera. At its most basic level, a trauma-informed approach comes down to visualizing, reporting, and sharing stories with an understanding of what trauma is, how trauma can affect individuals, and how secondary trauma affects those who work alongside each participant.

This story follows her early memories of the Derg Genocide and how she first became in possession of the medallion upon her escape. The medallions symbolised her freedom and was passed down to Ruth for her to pass on to her children, to keep her family and country’s story alive.
