At Plena Productions, we are storytellers crafting movies and site specific. But it has always been about more than that. We are a culture. We put team and talent first. We trust emotions and believe in rebellions.
Who we are
We are an incubator based in New York City. We are former journalists. Our workflows are designed to help artists tell their stories effectively and to help them reach the widest audience possible. At our core, we are driven by a love for Caribbean, African, and Southeast Asian art and culture. We believe that the media industry today often flattens stories from these regions, and the most nuanced and impactful films are led by local artists and artists who emerge from the diaspora.
Julien Jourdes founded Plena Productions after a decade of experience working on the cutting edge of the digital media and content industry. In 2013, Julien co-founded the global production company Blink Media which draws on creatives in over 180 countries for hundreds of commercial productions each year. Julien also has many years of experience in investigative journalism and war photography. Prior to starting Blink Media, he worked full-time as a visual editor at The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and Newsweek. He also worked as the editorial director at Magnum Photos during the Iraq War. He has received various journalism awards including a Pulitzer Prize nomination, two National Magazine Awards, World Press Photo and POY.

Grants
01 OUR GRANTS:
Paloma Pioneer Grant (PP): Grantees will be awarded $20,000 in seed money to kickstart their projects. Along with this financial boost, they will gain access to a team of seasoned experts for guidance in pitching, producing, and distributing their films. Additionally, a dedicated team will assist grantees in securing further funds and access to equipment as their project progresses.
Talia Transformation Fund (TT): A specialized grant option available to filmmakers and artists across all mediums, provided that the research is centered on documentary work. Successful applicants receive $2,000 in seed funding.
02 QUALIFICATIONS:
To be considered for either grant, your project must be in a "development" stage. If you have already started pre-production phases such as casting/hiring, commitment of daily rates, space rentals, set film dates, etc., we may be unable to step in with our type of support.
If you are not interested in applying for one of our grants, but still wish to work with us, don’t hesitate to reach out.

03 OUR RENTAL EQUIPMENT:
We have Angenieux Optimo and Canon Summire optics. We own the latest cameras Sony. If you are interested in renting any of this equipment, please complete the form below. We rent our optics exclusively to projects that align with our mission and require a valid COI. As we rent at cost, Plena Production must be credited as a co-producer in your film.
04 OUR SCREENING ROOM IN NYC:
Partners will also have access to our screening room. The room has a capacity of 30 people and a 4k Laser Projector. In addition to more traditional screening, we have 3D video conferencing, hybrid event solutions, and Metaverse technology.
